PLEASE NOTE: The Presidential Dollars Coin Program officially ended with the Ronald Reagan Dollar in 2016.
Coins were not produced for any living former presidents. Coins were produced for deceased presidents only.
The Presidential Dollar Coin Program is part of an Act of Congress that was enacted in December 2005. The law directs the US Mint to produce $1 coins with engravings of relief portraits of US presidents on the obverse. From 2007 through 2011 Presidential $1 coins were minted for circulation in large numbers, resulting in a stockpile of unused coins. Beginning in 2012 through the end of the program in 2016, new Presidential $1 coins were minted for collectors only.
