In 2009 the US Mint will be issuing 6 quarters in honor of the District of Columbia (Washington DC) and the 5 US Territories: the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Like the State Quarter Program, these new quarters will be issued in intervals throughout the year, in the order listed above. The image of George Washington will remain unchanged on the obverse of the coins and each quarter's reverse will have its own unique image that is emblematic of the District of Columbia and each of the US Territories.
