In 2010 the US Mint began the National Park Quarters Program, which consists of 56 quarters featuring designs of national parks or other national sites in the 50 states, District of Columbia and the US Territories. 5 new quarters are released each year, in the order in which each site was first established as a national site. A restored version of the 1932 John Flanagan portrait of George Washington is featured on the obverse of each coin, while the reverse has its own unique image of the selected national site. Mintages of the 2010 and 2011 releases were extremely low, which will likely ensure their rarity value in years to come.
